SATURDAY, OCTOBER 22Volunteers are needed to prune the Fire Blight-damaged branches from the 102-year old pear orchard adjacent to Joaquin Moraga School in Moraga. The Fire Blight infection threatens to kill this historic orchard, the last remaining public orchard of the original Del Monte orchard. In addition, each year the Moraga Park Foundation picks the pears for the Contra Costa Food Bank, supplying much-needed fresh produce. Volunteers will be pruning Saturday, October 22, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, and should bring pruning tools. For more information, contact Bobbie Preston at 925-376-8474. Rain will cancel the event.
