The Lafayette Public Art Committee and Lafayette Library and Learning Center celebrates fatherhood with photos and text of Bay Area dads and their kid(s) taken by Contra Costa County resident Nancy Rubin. “Mighty Dads” represents a diverse group of dads.
The exhibit runs from June 12 – July 17, 2017 in the Homework Center, located inside the library. The exhibit is accessible during most hours the library is open.
Photographer Nancy Rubins describes her exhibit:
In 2013, inspired by Humans of New York, I ventured out onto the streets of the Bay Area and began photographing local folks. The result is Humans of Berkeley and the Bay Area (HUBBA), an ongoing project featuring candid shots of people and text in their own words. I post these to social media. I do not go out looking for photo ops; rather, I am never without my camera so I simply take advantage of those opportunities that present themselves as I go about my normal routine. The camera is an entrée to open up a conversation and with very few exceptions people are happy to talk and let me photograph them. The gift of their time and trust gives me great satisfaction. Photography gives me constant surprises and endless joy.
